E01 Careers in Early Childhood Education Topic: Habitats - After viewing a video and discussing habitats, students will discuss the type of pets they have at home. Those who do not have pets can talk about the pets they would like and why. - Students will be asked for the names of homes for different animals including their pets. - Students will be ask why the homes of the animals mentioned designed in particular manner. Teacher will probe students in listing the benefits of their pet’s home. - Students will be given Lincoln logs for them to design their pets’ home. - When completed they will present their design to the class. 2. During this activity students will be working on their problem solving skills because as the logs fall, they will be thinking of ways to get them to stay in their particular design. This activity will also assists student’s fine motor skills . During early childhood stage, it is vital that fine motor skills be developed as these skills are essential for everyday skills as a child develops. Hand and Eye coordination will be used and it will sharpen their fine motor skills as they engage in this activity. Part B Montessori - Students and teacher will discuss ways in which they can help at home. - After students have discussed ways they know. Teacher will explain that they can offer to assist their parents by asking to help in bigger tasks. - Teacher gives a scenario: Your parent is a supplier of fresh fruit juice to a local school. The juices come in different bottle sizes. - How can you assist? - When students have explained ways they can assist. Teacher will ask them to pretend that they are helping fill the bottles, fitting the lid and packing bottles into crates. 2
E01 Careers in Early Childhood Education - Teacher will present students with trays which will consist of bottles of different sizes, large bowl with water, funnel, spoons and other items (Items such as the funnel is placed there for smaller bottles). - Students will be asked to fill bottles to show how they will assist. Students will use their fine motor skills to control their hands to pour water into bottles of different sizes and to put on the lid.
