While some ethical dilemmas might have small repercussions, others can have lasting effects on those involved. The way in which someone may respond to an ethical dilemma may be based on their personal worldview. The ethical dilemma of abortion will be discussed and examined from the Christian worldview perspective and compared to the atheist view. Ethical DilemmaThe case that will be discussed involves a woman, Susan, who after many years is finally pregnant. Through a blood test, her unborn baby is diagnosed with Down syndrome. Susan’s doctors suggest that she abort the fetus, however, she does not feel comfortable with idea of abortion. Susan seeks advice from Richard, who is a professor of evolutionary biology. Richard suggests she abort the baby, even suggesting that abortion is the most ethical course of action. The dilemma Susan is facing is whether or not to end the life of her baby growing inside of her. There are two different answers to resolve this dilemma: (a) to have the baby knowing that there may be difficulties in raising a child with special needs, or (b) abort the baby and be ready to handle any adverse consequences that could come from that major decision.
