My initial response to the references that I read for my paper were that they were interesting and insightful to me. I learned a lot thing that I did not know about the Native American history and culture as well as the Japanese culture. For instance, I did not know that “Occasionally the Japanese people visit to the family grave, especially during the religious weeks marked by equinoxes and mid-summer, as way to keep the dead “alive” in the world of the living.” (). This reference truly pointed out the difference between the American cultures and ideals on death and how they differ from that Japanese. I read another reference on how some people believe that an infant being baptize is a rite of passage. “Pence feels that infant baptism is rooted in biology and states that if both parents were baptized as infants then they will choose infant baptism as a rite of passage for their child.” ().
