Week 2: Greek and Roman Architectural Influences This week you will read and learn about architectural influences from Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. What are some of the main features of these architectural styles? Use examples from the text or the digital fieldtrip archives to help support your answer. Please remember to provide images and citations to help illustrate your points. An element of Greek architecture that is used often in many modern-day buildings are column styled after the Classical Orders (Sayre, 2013). The three orders are Doric, Ionic and Corinthian and according to Becker, the orders “Do not merely serve as descriptors for the remains of ancient buildings but as an index to the architectural and aesthetic development of Greek architecture itself,” (Khan Academy, n.d., para 1). The earliest order is the Doric order and it is the most simple of the three because it represents the transition from materials such as wood, to permanent materials like stone. The design is
