Chapter Summary Step 1: Forcecast demand – first we want to look at what we will be needing. - Causes: demographics, turnover, environmental changes - Techniques: expect – nominal group, delphi technique, trend projection – extrapolation and indexation, other – budget, new venture and simulations Step 2: Forecast supply - next look at what you have. Want to use techniques to see the skills that employees have that you can potentially use. Techniques: - HR Audits o Skills inventory o Management/leadership inventory o Replacement chart o Replacement summaries - Other o Transition matrix o Markov analysis Step 3: Compare supply and demand and develop HR strategy - Labour surplus o Headcount reduction o Attrition o Alternate work arrangements - Labour Shortage o Hire o Contract out work o Training and development o Flexible work arrangements Step 4: Implement HR strategies Step 5: Evaluate
