Taylor Ward 310 GCH 9/12/2018 Part A: The Sokal affair or the Sokal hoax was a scholarly publishing sting perpetrated by Alan Sokal. In 1996, Sokal submitted an article to Social Text, an academic journal of postmodern cultural studies. The article was an experiment to test the journal's intellectual rigor and to investigate whether a leading North American journal of cultural would publish an article with little to no facts if it sounded good and it consign with ideological preconceptions of the academic journal. The fake article titled " Transgressing the Boundaries: Towards a Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity ”, helped sparked debates about the scholarly merit of commentary about the physical sciences by those in the humanities
