AC730 - Business Processes and Systems Assessment Bentley University Team Project - Fall 2018 Objectives To provide Bentley University students an opportunity to: Examine an actual business process and its corresponding information system in action Document the business process using a narrative description, table of entities and activities, context diagram, and systems flowchart Analyze controls for the process and information Recommend additional controls and changes to the process, to improve operational and information process effectiveness. Overview In this project, your team will learn about and propose changes to a business process at a company or non-profit organization (e.g. order entry, billing, accounts receivable, purchasing, accounts payable, cash disbursements, inventory management, grants management, cost accounting) . Your first task is to find a willing organization, and determine which process/system you will examine. You must choose a company where none of the team members are currently employed. However, a team can conduct their project in the organization of a student who is not on the team (i.e., teams may swap organizations). There are four parts in this project. 1. Project Proposal : The first part is about developing the project proposal. You will gather information about the client organization through relevant articles in journals, newspapers and websites. You also need to develop a general understanding of the business process you have chosen. You will then document the various challenges in the business process, and also frame questions about the process to be used in the interview(s) at the client company. You will also sign a contract with your contact at the project site, and develop a detailed project plan. 2. Business Process Documentation and Analysis : This part is about documenting the business process. You will be conducting interviews at the client site to learn about the business process. You will then describe the business process, and document it using various techniques learned during the course, including a narrative, table of entities and activities, context diagram, and flowchart. 3. Class Presentation : This part is about presenting your findings about the business process and its controls. You will describe and analyze the different controls related to this business process using the structure of a control matrix, and formulate changes to the controls. You will draw on material from this assessment and Part 2 to share with your classmates as a team presentation. 4. Final Report : This final part brings all the pieces together, and makes process and control recommendations that will be shared with the client. Based on feedback from the presentation, you will then complete the report, present it to your client, and get their reaction.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
