Understanding Forestry Why is the sustainability of Forests so important? (Anthropocentric) 1. Which of the following ecosystem services (see below) are provided for by forests? Forests provide soil formation, nutrient cycling, supplying raw materials -- such as minerals and energy, climate regulation. It also provides food for humans, and providing beautiful place for solitude, inspiration, and recreation. 2. For three ecosystem services you identified, describe how forests provide for them. Forests provide: - Climate regulation by absorbing the CO2 and using it for photosynthesis - Food, such as animals, berries, and herbs -- which can be hunted or gathered and eaten. - Intrinsic value, for several people, due to their natural beauty 3. Give evidence that forests are not being used sustainably. Evidence of forests not being used sustainably include the vast amounts of forests are destroyed to be used for paper, lumber, and land, etc. Because the forests are being destroyed at a rate higher than they can be replenished and are thus decreasing in size.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
