Area of Assessment Techniques used for the areas of assessment Name 1 Name 2 Name 3 Describe the following: Describe: Inspection of abdomen (pg 452-453) 1 point Check whether the patient’s bladder is empty Ensure the patient is comfortable in the supine position, with the head lying on a pillow and another one under the knees Slide the hands under the low back to establish whether the patient is relaxed and lying flat on the table Request the patient to keep the arms at the sides or folded across the chest Before beginning palpation, request the patient to point to any regions of pain so that these regions can be examined last Warm the stethoscope and your hands Approach the patient calmly avoiding quick, unanticipated movements Watch the face of the patient for any indications of discomfort or pain Distract the patient if necessary with questions or a conversation If the patient is ticklish or frightened , start palpation with the hands of the patient under yours After a few moments, slip your hand beneath to palpate directly
