What produces the hormone Where it has its impact What the impact is What controls the release: what is it regulating Endocrine System: made inside the cells and go out the cell’s surface System of ductless glands producing hormones: o Regulatory or control substances Hormones: different effects on different tissues o Different receptors on different cells One receptor might signal one thing and another could signal something else One part making the hormone, another transport(usually bloodstream), and another receives that hormone Two types of endocrine cells: o Neurosecretory: from nerve cells Nerve cells communicate with each other by way of chemicals: neuroreceptors See ppt slide 26.1 Many phyla o Non-neurosecretory: not of neuronal origin Arthropods(crab, bee, fruit fly, cockroach) and vertebrates Pineal gland: controls sleep, melatonin Digestive Hormones o Secretin: produced: small intestine in response to stomach acidity causes release of pancreatic enzymes
