Graduation rates vary by social class, but even more by race o Wealth includes assets and income o Income is used as an income because it is publicly reported o The pattern is working in the direction it should be. Graduation rates are increasing for everybody Private schools are able to do what they want to because they are answering to the parents o Public schools are answering to the public o For years schools have been dominated by white males o 85% of instructional faculty of the public college level is white 5% black, 6% Asian, 3% Latino, 1% American 38% is female o 2 year instruction-female 50% o 1 st grade 98% female o One reason so few women are in tenure position has nothing to do with there qualifications Tenure system: been in place to protect academic freedom No other system has a tenure system other than the university If you go that path tenure track is 7 years Must have a lot of publications~20-30 articles before age 40 o You will have a job for life
