The rock that I chose for this discussion post is marble. The marble I chose is tile tile located on my bathroom floors. Marble is a nonfoliated metomorphic rock that contains uniformaly sized grains of a single mineral. According to our textbook, Physical Geology, “Metamorphosed conglomerates may retain the original texture of the parent rock, including the outlines and colors of larger grains.” According to , “marble is produced from the metamorphism of limestone. It is composed primarily of calcium carbonate.” Due to its mineral composition, marble is a very soft stone, which explains why it is used for carvings and for building materials. Marble is mined throughout the world. Much of the mined marble is crushed and then processed back into stone in order to remove its impurities. Marble is located across the globe and is different in each region. An interesting fact is that just recently divers found a marble sculpture at the bottom of the Rhone river in France.
