Geoff Martindale Tuesday 1:00 Lab MASC 110L Lab #8 Objective: The objective of this lab was to construct the monomer cis-isoprene and the polymers of natural rubber, gutta-percha, and dacron. Theory: Polymers are constructed of monomers and are created in two different ways, through addition polymerization, or through condensation. The repeat structures of these polymers are being constructed in this lab. The two double bonds on cis-isoprene are broken to form a central double bond which leaves two outside bonds for addition polymerization to take place. This is called cis-1,4-polyisoprene also known as natural rubber. The geometric isomer of natural rubber is trans-1,4-polyisoprene also known as

Discussion: This lab was straight forward and fairly easy. It was interesting to be able to visually examine the molecules. There were also no questions to address in this lab write-up. Conclusion: The objective of this lab was to construct models of a monomer and its polymers as well as the condensation polymer dacron. We did this without any problem.
