Abler 1 Hannah Abler EDU 101- Self Assessment Paper Prof. Bachman 10/09/07 Assess Yourself I see myself as a determined, stubborn, smart, and friendly person. I have many other qualities, but those were just the first that came to mind. I’m stubborn because I know my values and I stick to my guns on them. But I’m also open-minded in the fact that I don’t automatically dismiss the other side. If I find a different viewpoint or fact that I find valid, then I try to mold it to my existing values and if it won’t mold, then I reevaluate my old value and try to figure out how to fit in the new bit of information. I have great people skills, I know how to listen, assist, entertain and inform, but I don’t really feel the need to divulge a lot of information about myself to people. I actually find it rude and annoying when my little brother goes off about himself and our family when he meets someone new. I subscribe to the belief that if after meeting me and getting basic info they still want to know something, they will ask about it. I know that I get that preference from my dad because he is the same way; he’ll listen if you tell him a story, and enjoy it too, but he doesn’t think that anyone needs to know his business. Therefore, I tend to come off as really quiet when people first meet me. I like to be the person who people come to to talk out their problems. I like being the listener because it tells me that people believe I’m trustworthy. I am very lazy at times and make up excuses to keep from doing my work. When I need to get something very important done, I tend to ignore it and put it off until the last minute. I’m a very big

Abler 2 procrastinator. But, I’ve been working on that recently and it’s gotten a lot better. I still have really poor time-management skills, however. I’m very messy, but I find that it is easier for me to find things if I leave it chaotic than if I clean it up; It’s easier for me to remember where I threw or dropped something than it is for me to remember where I put it away. I know that people who have just met me think that I’m quiet, weird, or even snobbish because I am quiet. My friends see me as kind, loving, fun, spontaneous, a good person to go to for advice, talkative, random, and smart. My extended family sees me as sweet, helpful, somewhat selfish, talented and smart. My parents have told me that I am lazy, wasted potential, smart, talented, pretty, mean-spirited, un-orderly, chaotic, spastic, irresponsible at times, messy, arrogant, and spiteful. I know that my parents are a big factor in what shaped my self concept. My mother’s voice is the one that says “I told you
