EVR1001L-0001 Spring 2018 Lab 1: Easter Island: Carrying Capacity and Sustainability Lab Report Name: Shweta Notani Date: 9 th September 2018 Materials and Methods: This experiment was conducted using a time machine on Second Life. The time machine was used to travel to six different time periods to Easter Island to determine why its cultivation collapsed. The time periods include 900 AD, 1200 AD, 1400 AD, 1500 AD, 1600 AD and 1800 AD. In each time period, a line transect was conducted to determine the population density of palm trees and mulberry trees that were present using a transecter. Additionally, a drone was used to count how many inhabitants were present in four villages on Easter Island throughout the different time periods. For each method, the results were recorded in order to analyze and determine the reason Easter Island’s cultural decrease.
