The Age Of Reason 1700-1789 The scientific discoveries and philosophic ideas made the seventeenth century intellectual and exciting and bore fruit in the eighteenth century. The scientific Revolution led thinkers in the 1700s believed they were living in a time of illumination and enlightenment. Committed to scientific methodology, mathematical reasoning and healthy skepticism the belief of their knowledge could lead to improvement of individual and society. Their were four different trends marked as the Age of Reason. The first trend during the Baroque era, the process of growing concentration of political power in the great states. One of the most powerful sates was France and was followed by Great Britain. The second trend, after a century or more of decline, the return of aristocracy to prominence occurred and the French Revolution destroyed their bases of power.
