THE TRIUMPH OF THE BOURGEOISIE
Image of page 1
The French and American Revolutions offered the hope of political power to all disenfranchised groups, and the Industrial Revolution promised material gains to the impoverished. Expectations remained largely unfulfilled in Europe during the nineteenth century, because benefits were reaped by one group the middle class the wealthiest sector. A group left behind was created by industrialization—the proletariat, or working class. Frustrations were expressed by urban workers through political uprising and social movements and often the lower class joined in demanding universal voting and legitimate distribution of power and wealth. Against liberalism of the bourgeoisie some workers set forth ideals of socialism. Making changes was limited and the successive waves of revolutionary uprisings failed to win significant improvements. The changes were passed in there beliefs and traditions and from the peak in the 1820s Romanticism declined and finally faded away.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
