This approach requires that huge inventories be maintained” (sec. 9.5, para 1). MRP is concerned with production scheduling and inventory control. MRP is a major part of the Manufacturing process. Larger companies use MRP to manage inventory for customer demand items. It is used to determine what should be assembled and what materials will be used by a certain date. MRP is also able to show shortages and can make suggestions on items to order or build upon based on data entered. “In an MRP system, order releasing is prompted when a planned order release appears in the current time period (i.e. action bucket)(Bragg, Duplaga, & Watts, (1999).
