Edgar Allan Poe is a renowned essayist, poet and a storyteller who used his skill to write
numerous literary works that portrayed his present society. In his piece of work “The Cask of
Amontillado, the author as would be acknowledged by his audience describes the greatest story
of his work. The story describes the revenge, torture, murder and some addiction within the
Italian setup. The author has adopted different literary elements to give the story a flow and
express his intended purpose. The story is based on its setting, foreshadow, irony and point of
view. The four literary elements have been used interchangeably to pass the intended message
and provide a platform for his audience to analyze his contribution to literature.
The story by Edgar Poe has been set in two locations. The first location is the carnival
which is the place the main character Montresor meets Fortunato. The author begins the story in
a moderate tempo by describing Carnival as a place of happiness and full of celebrations.
Carnival is a public place, and this fact misleads Fortunato to make an assumption that the
meeting with Montresor is friendly as it is casual. The area representing happiness and
celebration has allowed Fortunato to free the difficulties; this allows Montresor to accelerate his
