ENG 221 Midterm Study Outline Below are lists of characters and terms from the texts and lectures. (These are not exhaustive lists but they do include most of the major terms.) Advice for the exam: have a handle on these terms and characters, review the texts (or read them for the first time if you haven’t done the reading; the passages that were discussed in lecture are always a good place to start when you’re studying), and understand larger themes in each text. Be able to talk about a passage locally and relate it to the larger themes of the text. The midterm exam will have five identifications (typically these will be a character or term) that you will be asked to define or explain, worth five points each. The second part of the exam will contain three passages, one from each of the texts we have studied.
