JS 211 Final Study Guide Fall, 2017 The final exam will consist of two types of essays. Section I. Primary Source Analysis. (40 points) You will be given an excerpt of one of the primary sources analyzed either in class or discussion section. To fully analyze the primary source, you will be asked to: 1) include basic information about the text, (including the author, purpose, date, and historical context) 2) analyze the specific excerpt you have been given 3) discuss the document as a whole 4) explain the significance of this text in relationship to key concepts, ideas, and themes in the class. This essay question asks you to reflect on a specific primary source and consider its significance in historical context. It also asks you to consider the topic/themes within the primary source as you have encountered them in other assigned readings (secondary sources) and lecture/discussion section, as well as connect it with larger themes in the class.
