Approximately 50% of the class sessions will be held in person(face-to-face instruction). When the class is in person, the material is presented in severaldifferent ways in response to students’ questions. It allows for a certain level of passivity onthe part of students who listen and learn from OTHER students' questions, but do notparticipate in class discussion. In contrast, the virtual portion of the class—the online class sessions—calls on each andevery student to take charge of their learning. The professor will notprovide videorecordings of the lesson or ask students to join a virtual session over the web. The learningwill not be based on reviewing PowerPoints. Rather, you are asked to do close reading ofthe assigned reading, monitoring their understanding of the material, communicating aboutthe key concepts with the professor and other students through the Discussion Board onBlackboard. If you are not ready for this type of engagement, please enroll in another section ofthis class in which 100% in-class instruction is offered.1
