John DeweyBy Sarah Madison
Who was John Dewey?John Dewey was a philosopher, psychologist and educational reformer who was a leading individual that promoted progressive education in the US. Throughout Dewey’s life he worked endlessly along with Charles S. Peirce and Williams James to advocate for how they thought a student-focused educational system should look like, and how it should work within the classroom.
Dewey’s Beliefs●Curriculum’s should be created according to the students’ interests and should be included in all activities or experiments. ●All curriculum should be combined, instead of divided into individual subject based lessons. ●Children should be given educational opportunities that allow them to connect present knowledge to previous experiences and knowledge.
Educational View●Dewey refused the curriculum centered view ●Dewey thought that education should consist of interaction between the students and the curriculum ●Dewey wanted to psychologize the curriculum
