MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION 2 Abstract This paper addresses the benefits of legalizing marijuana in the United States. It talks about the potential that tax revenue and how the economy can be boosted due to the legalization. It would provide more jobs to increase production and distribution of legalized marijuana reducing the unemployment rate. It addresses the medical purposes of marijuana and how if it was legalized recreationally people could prevent more serious illnesses in the long run. It talks about how alcohol actually has more negative health consequences than marijuana yet it is legal and marijuana is not. With marijuana being legal it would reduce the jail population because there would be less “criminals” going in for petty drug charges. People say that it would increase marijuana use and increase crime rates and this is simply not true. I address the counter-argument to marijuana legalization and refute it with reliable sources.
