Classical Scientific ideals based on empirical observations and formal logic I see, therefore I know Logical Metaphysical versus Scientific Verifiability through analytical or empirical means Empirical observation makes scientific statements difficult to verify, but possible to falsify. Problems with positivism The verifiability statement itself fails the logic test Observation is based in theory (we perceive through a frame of understanding) Positivists worried too much about syntax of science, not its practicality Post-Positivists All of the goals without the preoccupation with absolutes Ontology - realism and some social constructionism - regularity and pattern in interactions Epistemology and Axiology - knowledge through regularities and empirical examination.
