The Effect of the Catalase on the Rate of Reaction Observation: Catalase is an enzyme that helps catalyze the reduction of hydrogen peroxide. Enzymes require to stay within a certain temperature range to maintain homeostasis. When enzymes get too hot, they can become denatured, which will make it so they cannot function properly. Question: Will boiling the catalase effect the rate of reaction? Hypothesis: Boiling the catalase will decrease the catalyzation of hydrogen peroxide. Prediction: If the hypothesis is proven to be true, then it can be said that catalase has to be in a certain temperature range to function properly and efficiently. Experiment: Materials needed: LabQuest, LabQuest App, Vernier O 2 Gas Sensor, two 400 mL beaker, 10 mL graduated cylinder, four 18 by 150 mm test tubes, 250 mL Nalgene bottle, 3.0% H 2 O 2 , Liver enzyme suspension, ice, test tube rack, two thermometers, a hot plate, and dropper pipette(s Note: If several people are in a group trying to follow this experiment, it would be much quicker to assign a few people to do each temperature range. However, if only one or a few people are conducting it, then just work on one temperature range at a time 1. Obtain and wear goggles (optional) 2. Connect the O 2 Gas Sensor to the LabQuest and choose New from the File menu. If you

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
