Drain the Great Lakes Video Assignment Alexis McCoy 10 Most Important Points 1. Lake Superior has deep, vast valleys. The processes that formed the valleys occurred when a giant ice sheet pressed down, reshaping and gouging the land. The deep depressions would be filled when the ice melted. The deepest part of Lake Superior, 400 meters, wasn’t formed by ice but rather water and particles that shaved through bedrock to carve valleys. 2. The Straits of Mackinac have a deep channel, 40 km long, 1,000-meter- wide, that runs through the center of the bridge; this was a challenge for the bridge builders. 3. The center point of the Great Lakes basin is Tobermory, Ontario. This area holds many clues of the history of the Great Lakes. Incredibly high water levels existed here when the glaciers melted; water levels have fluctuated greatly, 10,000 years ago when the air was more arid. The lake bed here shows the channel dropping from 30 to 50 meters. Some waterfalls greater than Niagara Falls once existed.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
