TRAFFICKING OF ILLICIT NARCOTICS 2 Trafficking of Illicit Narcotics Trafficking illicit drugs is one of issues that affect border management; it is a menace that has troubled the government of the United States of America for a very long period of time. The illicit narcotics usually come from Mexico and are normally exported to the United States of America through the border. In this study we are going to discuss most of the impacts that are caused by this the illicit trafficking of drugs at both domestic and at international levels since the effects cut across without any boundaries. We will also be able to discuss some of the major challenges and problems that are faced by the border patrol agencies at the border as they try to control the trafficking of illicit narcotics. Most importantly we will look at the possible ways and strategies that could be employed to address this particular challenge. Introduction There has been a rise in the amount of drugs that are being seized by the border patrol officers at the U.S border. From 2009 rates at which illicit drugs were being trafficked had increased at an alarming rate with amounts of heroin that had been seized at the Southwestern border tripling while amounts of meth which were seized quintupled during 2014 ( Velasco, 2017 ). At the southern border marijuana and cocaine are illicit drugs which were commonly seized resulting to millions of pounds worth of illicit narcotics that the border patrol were able to seize. Challenges Faced by Border Management Agencies Due to availability of so much money in the illicit narcotic trafficking business, this has made the war on drug trafficking very difficult to control; cartels and narcotic traffickers get a lot of money that originates from profits they make from the sale of cocaine and heroin and other 2

They then use part of these profits to bribe law enforcement officers including border patrol officers to let their narcotics pass through the borders without being inspected to the required standards. Due to this it has been very difficult for both the US government and the Mexican government to stop the narcotic trafficking between the two countries that share borders ( Fukumi, 2016 ).

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
