A BRIEF HISTORY • The term holocracy is derived from the word holarchy, which was used in a book written by Arthur Koestler • The title of the book was “The ghost in the machine.” • Brian Robertson ,of Ternary Software, is credited with putting together the practices which make up holocracy • He published a book in 2015 which details this system • Holocracy is a system whereby teams within an organization function autonomously, yet are part of the whole organization • It is a philosophy that depends on self-management.
HOLACRACY OVERVIEW • Different organizations have been using it for years. • It replaces the usual hierarchy type of management with peer to peer interactions. • It allows teams to resolve issues without bureaucratic red tape. • Employees are assigned to a circle • The roles within this circle are then decided. • The objective of this style of non-management is complete transparency. • Hiding behind a title is not possible.
