Running Head: THE TRAIT MODEL OF PERSONALITY2The Trait Model of PersonalityThe Trait Model of Personality is one of the most unfavorable debated theories in thefield of personality studies. Many psychologists have theorized using the trait approach topersonality, which supports the difference between person to person. The foundation of who weare, the machinery that makes us engage in what we do, often seems asarduous to understand asthe surrounding atmosphere. For all one knows, the study of personality is somewhat a newsubdiscipline in the field of psychology. To answer the question to what makes differentindividuals behave the way they do, the most commonly used approach is the trait theory. TraitTheory, studies human personality that identifies and measures the degree to which certainpersonality traits, reappearing pattern of thought and behavior, such as anxiousness, shyness andopenness to new things from person to person.Throughout this paper, I will discuss an overview of the trait model of personality byidentifying one principal theorist associated with the model. Allport is considered oneof the one of the pioneers of formal personality trait theorist. According to Ewen (2003), “hedescribes personality in terms of straightforward traits like friendliness, ambitiousness, cleanliness, enthusiasm, punctuality, shyness, talkativeness, dominance, submissiveness, generosity” (pg. 265). In 1936, Allport worked on 4,000 words in the English dictionary thatdescribe the human personality traits. He structured the traits into a hierarchy of three levels, and
