Ben Hirsh Issue #1 Reflection: Should Purchasing Health Insurance be Mandatory After reading the article for Issue One, I now have understanding for the actual process of insurance. The controversy of this issue basically stems from two sides of differing medical professionals, politicians, and insurance agencies points of view of the need for health insurance. This article starts off with the reasons why mandatory health insurance is a necessity. It seems that having it as a necessity is more of the democratic view point. President Clinton proposed an all embracing health care plan. Which was basically stating that medical care providers should only cover you for the necessary health costs. The supporters of the single payer system came through with some very solid arguments. The supporters argument consists of proving that American medical innovation is peaking, and with the single payer plan that it will only continue to peak as the medical world blossoms. It seems that the argument for the other side is based on sympathy for the low
