Lesson 11 Assignment 1. There are many types of poetry but the two types of categories that poetry is places in to be narrative poetry and lyric poetry. Narrative poetry, which is story telling poetry. Lyric poetry, which is song poetry. 2. Nursery rhymes are a child’s first introduction to poetry. Nursery rhymes introduce the smaller children to rhymes. These are good for smaller children because they are short and simple and kids this age have short attention spans. 3. The difference between prose and poetry is that poetry is much more compact than prose is. A word in poetry says a lot more that a single word in prose. They both set apart by the characteristics in poetry, which are the rhythm, sound patterns, figurativeness, compactness, and emotional intensity. The difference between verse and poetry is that is that verse has a lower level of intensity. Verse is a matter of structure, its formal metrical order and rhythm pattern. Its structure is way more important than its meaning.
