Week 2 DiscussionsWeek 2, Discussion #1The film, The Gilded Cage, uses symbolism to get the point across that the woman lives “caged” in by her gender and her own decisions. You see the caged bird throughout the piece then at the end, she reaches in and releases the bird. The film ends with her standing in the gilded cage. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is full of symbolism that portrays aspects of Christianity and Catholicism. The character of Gandalf is a symbol for Jesus, and Saruman is a symbol for the devil or Satan.
