The price of bread skyrockets, causing the bread riots. ( In addition to high taxes, bread prices set off the commoners) The third estate- 98%- had to pay all taxes, fight in all of the wars, and pay for all of the increased food prices Between May and October of 1789, France went from an absolute monarchy to the commoners writing a declaration stating their independence, and the women forced Louis and Marie- Antoinette to leave Versailles. Inflation- When the value of money goes down; when more money is printed, the value of money goes down and prices skyrocket. Hyperinflation- When the rate of inflation increases drastically, rapidly decreasing the value of money. Louis XVI Also incompetent Under the influence of his wife, Marie Antoinette o Daughter of Maria Theresa o Sister of Emperor Joseph Did not make important decisions Facts Austria and France were enemies and this marriage was aimed at ending the feud Marie was 14 when she was married to Louis
Did not “consummate” the marriage for 7 years, (king’s medical condition), she was teased relentlessly and criticized for not producing an heir to the throne.
