Lee, the townspeople of Hillsboro despise Henry Drummond because he is opposing the almighty Matthew Harrison Brady.One of the reasons Drummond is despised very much is his open-mind. He is open to learning and accepting different beliefs, whereas the townspeople refuse to even accept other beliefs.With these very few details about Drummond, they conclude that he is evil. Although Henry Drummond is described as a “sinner” and a “godless man” (Lawrence and Lee 27), by the people of Hillsboro, his fine traits prove he is actually an admirable character. Firstly, Drummond’s confidence makes him a likeable character.Drummond is very confident to take on a case where the entire town is biased.Without any doubt, the people of Hillsboro are unfair, when they hang up a banner which reads, “Read Your Bible” (13), encouraging creationism.
