An Anthropological Examination of 21st Century North America: The Forgotten Central Park The Atlantic Coast of New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Jersey are environmentally rich area where land and ocean hold a wealth of natural resources. The land contains farmland, forest, wetlands, beaches and parks. On April 23, 2710, an anthropological team lead by Dr. Gary D. Paulson of the University of North Carolina discovered a major archaeological site. This 843 acre site, thought to be previously known as Manhattan, was covered by lava from a catastrophic volcano. The specific site explored is called Central Park, which is surrounded by a 6 mile road, thought to be used by primitive ground vehicles. Through stratigraphy, the team concluded that the area was total green space, with numerous trees. The team has been in the site for approximately six months now and plan to stay until funds run out, which is projected to be in about two more years. Not only did the team have to dig through the volcanic layers, but since the 21 st century, much of North America was covered by water due to the melted ice caps from global warming. This complication delayed the start of the archaeological dig since Dr. Paulson’s team had to go out on boats to explore the site in the flooded area. Since the University of North Carolina is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, it was elevated enough to not be adversely affected by the global flooding. In addition to the discovery of what the landscape was made of, there were
