Roberto Gonzalez ENGL 1301 November 17, 2017 All About Alyiah- It’s a scorching hot summer day in Maxwell, Texas. There are over five thousand people gathered at the National Hispanic Institute Campus. All of them are inside avoiding the heat. There are people from all over South America and North America gathered here. Some speaking Spanish, some speaking English. The noise level is through the roof with chatter. In walks Alyiah Carbajal, a nervous fifteen-year old that was incredibly shy. This was a culture shock and all around scary scene for someone who has lived in a small town all her life. Alyiah worked up the courage to stay strong and go make something of her own self. Alyiah played a very intricate role in the program called NHI, National Hispanic Institute. NHI is a leadership program that is categorized by three specific years. These “years” so to speak, would depend on if you were in the summer of freshman, sophomore, or junior year of high school. Within this program were students from all over the continent. Students that were ranked high in the classrooms were called out to voluntarily join by recruiters from NHI.
