2HIGH HEALTHCARE COSTS IN AMERICA.IntroductionThe United States of America has been spending a lot on healthcare compared to otherhigh-income countries. The difference in healthcare expenditure is attributed to labor and goodsacquisition. The cost of healthcare to the American citizens is a significant concern and should beaddressed. The cost of health care affects the nation and the fact that the affordability of healthcare is at stake, citizens are bound to suffering. Research efforts aimed at reducing the cost ofhealth care have made a significant influence. Little evidence has made an impact; I believe morecan be done hence my interest in this problem. The use of information and technology inhealthcare can be used to reduce the costs of health care in many ways. Cutting down onexpenses when acquiring goods as pharmaceuticals reduce per capita costs. This paper is aimedat; determining the scope of high health care costs in America, identifying strategies that areeffective in reducing health care costs, to discuss the role of health informatics in lowering healthcare costs. The overall goal of the project is to ensure health care affordability for AmericanCitizens.Problem analysisAccording to a study done to compare health care expenditure among ten high-incomecountries, America was found to have the highest expense, which was actually two times morethan the other high-income countries (Papanicolas, 2018). These high expenditures reflect at thehigh costs of healthcare that citizens face. The high cost of health care in America is because theoverall spending is high compared to other high-income countries. (Papanicolas, 2018). Highhealthcare expenses are also because of the disease burden, e.g., chronic illnesses and epidemics.
3HIGH HEALTHCARE COSTS IN AMERICA.The rate at which lifestyle choices are causing diseases is a significant concern because healthcare costs are continuously rising.An example is obesity, which is the cause of a lot of lifestyle-related diseases that arevery costly to manage. Strategies aimed at reducing health care costs are the use of healthinsurance covers and technology via health informatics (Rak & Coffin, 2013). Health informaticsplays a significant role in cutting down health expenses like the use of EMRs (Kazley, 2014).
