PHIL186 May 17 th , 2018 Final Exam 1. A major ethical issue at Bryson Cable is that Harry Jackson, the plant manager and vice president of operations, demanded that Stanton Wong violate the protocol of reporting the test failure for the warhead cables. This is a major ethical issue because Harry is taking advantage of his power and authority by intimidating Stanton into violating standard work protocols. As the plant manager and vice president, he should be ensuring that the employees are following protocols, however, Harry deliberately demanded Stanton to violate the protocol. Another ethical issue at Bryson Cable is that Harry Jackson constantly insulted his direct reports, harassed the young female employees, and was having an affair with the sales account manager. As the plant manager and vice president of operations, Harry should maintain professionalism when interacting with his employees. Instead, he is using his higher position as an excuse to engage in inappropriate and unprofessional behavior. As a manager, he should not have to insult his direct reports if they made a mistake. He could have handled the situation in a more professional manner by explaining the issue to them calmly, as they still would have listened to him because of his position. In addition, he is also harassing the young female employees and having an affair with one of the employees, which reveals that he is not creating a safe and healthy work environment for the employees. Another ethical issue is Harry Jackson’s decision to disregard the failed samples and wait to see if Jane Conway, the source inspector, discovers the problem. This poses an ethical issue because Stanton stated that Jane will not be performing the elevated heat seal test to ensure the integrity of the product like he would, which means that she potentially would not find the problem with the cables. After Stanton explained the issue of failed samples, he stated that there could be inconsistency in the lot. Despite all of the information, Harry shouts at Stanton and tells him that
