(history website, course, to Hist 1a, sign in) Egypt: New Kingdom A recurring theme in history of ancient egypt= consolidation, conquest, and then reconsolidation Hyksos are expelled from egypt leading to the New Kingdom Egypt was liberated from Hyksos by Ahmos I (founder of 18th dynasty) New kingdom (18-20 dynasties) high point of wealth, power, and prestige of Egypt Ahmos liberates Egypt and reunifies Egypt in its original boundaries Amenhotep I expanded Egypt Thutmose I and II Hatshepsut decides that being guardian to the pharaoh was insufficient so she takes the reign for herself Hatshepsut is determined to rule in her own rights, gets the throne and title of a pharaoh Egyptian king was supposed to be a man, so queen hatshepsut had to become king hatshepsut (artificial beard and dressed like a man) Some of the rule inscription were confused on her gender (starts as her majesty and then hail to his majesty) (Lasted over just 2 decades and during this period she had full control and lead an expedition south of Egypt)
