Introduction The Baptist Faith and Message (B.F. &M.) is the proclamation of faith of the Southern Baptist Convention. It encapsulates Southern Baptist cognition in the fields of the Bible and its jurisdiction, the essence of God as revealed by the Trinity, the spiritual estate of man, God’s intention of grace and salvation, the function of the local church, mandates, evangelism, Christian literacy, synergy with society, religious freedom, and the family. 1 Southern Baptists originally arrogated The Baptist Faith and Message (B. F. & M.) in 1925. The ecclesiological segment of the communique was appropriated from the New Hampshire Confession of 1833, further displacing the Philadelphia Confession of 1742. Its declaration concerning the church fundamentally stayed the same with just a few adjustments. 2 In 2000, when the most recent B. F. & M. was brought forth, The Southern Baptist Convention reported that the goal of their statement of faith and message is to establish specific instructions and guidelines which they affirm. This paper’s goal is to compare and contrast the ecclesiological sections of the Baptist Faith and Message doctrinal statements of 1925, 1963, and 2000.
