Unformatted text preview: Definitions, statements and proofs that may appear on the first midterm Math 221 In addition to more computational problems, a few questions on the test may ask you to state a definition or theorem and there will likely be one question asking you to derive (prove) a property or a theorem. The list of the definitions and properties that may be on the test appears below. Not all these questions will appear on the test, of course. I plan to have one problem that will ask you to derive or prove something, and one or two may ask you to define something or state a theorem or property. Practice midterm should give you a good idea. Definitions and statements: 1. Define what does it mean that the function f ( x ) is continuous at x = a. 2. Define the derivative of a function f ( x ) at x = a. 3.
