Physics Laboratory Report Heat Lab H: Electrical Equivalent of Heat Beatriz Cabral Group: 4 Date of Experiment: 11/12/18 Date of Submission: 11/19/18 PHYS 103A Lab Instructor’s Name: Haizheng Zhang Partners: Mike Pateiro and Vincent 1. INTRODUCTION In this lab, my group and I had to determine equivalent of heat, the conversion factor between the electrical energy unit (joule), and the heat energy unit (calorie). We also came to a deeper understanding of the Conservation of Energy. It is known that the law of conservation consists of the total amount of energy in an isolated system which remains constant over time. Energy cannot be created or destroyed but it is possible to transform it from one form to another. At the end of the experiment, we discovered that if the system is thermally isolated from surroundings, the total electrical energy delivered to the system should be equal to the total heat gained by the system. The equations provided on the introductory page allowed us to calculate the rest of our results.
