But the man skilled in all ways of contending, satisfied by the great bow’s look and heft, like a musician, like a harper, when with quiet hand upon his instrument he draws between his thumb and forefinger a sweet new string upon a peg; so effortlessly Odysseus in one motion strung the bow. What is this epic simile emphasizing? 2. Odysseus and Telemachus struck like eagles, crook-clawed, hook-beaked, swooping down from a mountain ridge to harry smaller birds that cringe under the clouds. The eagles plunge in fury, rip their lives out--hopeless, never a chance of flight or rescue, so the attackers chased the suitors headlong down the hall, wheeling into the slaughter, slashing left and right and grisly screams broke from skulls cracked open-the whole floor awash with blood.
