1. They were in competition with each other all the time. There was competition in the fur trade, as well when the British assumed power of Acadia (Novia Scotia) and then deported all the Freach-speaking Acadians. 2. The railroad increased the expansion westward. Having the railroad opened connections between culture hearths. The highway was a similar situation. It provided people a faster way of transportation either for themselves or for their goods/products. 3. The arid lands to the west of the 100th meridian were more difficult to settle compared to the humid east. 4. They froze Chinese immigration by making the Chinese immigrants permanent aliens, not letting them become US citizens. The outcomes were isolated Chinese communities, and there was an outbreak of racism- not just to the Chinese, but to other Asians like the Japanese. 5. Manifest Destiny is the belief the US settlers were destined to expand across North America. This belief made the US settlers believe they had the right to move west. This
