Seventh WebCT assignment. Bio 1406 fall 2006. 1-3. (3 points each) This is the "Killer Tomato Question"! In tomatoes, at the fruit color locus, the allele for red fruit is dominant to the allele for yellow fruit. At the number of locule locus, the allele for two-loculed fruit is dominant to the allele for many-loculed fruit. At the height locus, the allele for a tall vine is dominant to the allele for a dwarf vine. The loci for these three traits are on different chromosome pairs. A breeder wants to produce a new true breeding line for trade that is red, many-loculed, and dwarf. First she forms plants heterozygous for all three traits. Next, she crosses two of these heterozygotes. 1. If she gets 960 plants from this cross, how many of them would you expect to be red, many-loculed, and dwarf? Enter a NUMBER, such as 11, when you submit your answer on WebCT. 2. How many would be true breeding red, true breeding many-loculed, and true breeding dwarf? Enter a NUMBER, such as 11, when you submit your answer on WebCT. 3. Of the above plants that are red, many-loculed, and dwarf, if she selfed these plants could she determine if they are homozygous or heterozygous for fruit color? (assume many offspring from each self cross, this is a yes or no question). Inheritance of blood type questions.
