In the Same Boat According to this cartoonist, there are a couple of political heavyweights that recently seem to be “in the same boat.” It appears to this satirist, the war in Iraq has been going on way too long. Our troops have done their duty and now it is time for President Bush to bring them home. Coupled with Israel’s Prime Minister’s retarded efforts to get some of their obstinate citizens out of Israel’s Gaza region, the two leaders find themselves open to parallel comic scrutiny. This is the basic theme illustrated in this political cartoon with Ehud Olmert, the Prime Minister of Israel, and President George W. Bush at sea fishing on a boat. The deck of the boat is brimming with fish below a wall of trophies belonging to both Bush and Olmert, yet Bush is saying, “Ehud, let’s keep at it… We can’t go back home empty-handed.” The image of the President in this cartoon greatly reflects his on-going military actions in the war in Iraq; principally his hesitation to end the war. This parallels with Olmert’s sluggish behavior in the Gaza “pull-out”. In Bush’s fishing trip the goal of catching fish has certainly been accomplished and is now
