Database Design and ERDThe first order of business when entering the design phase of a system development lifecycle is to determine the Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) and establish a database that will store all the customer data for Pizza Palace. An ERD is imperative to iterate what the actual process will be considering the hardware, software, data process, data flow, and the inputs/outputs of this new system. This system will track each customer’s order and save all information from that customer into the database. Designing physical files and databases requirescertain information that should have been collected and produced during prior SDLC phases of the Pizza Palace system. This information includes the following:Normalized relations, including volume estimates of customer ordersDefinitions of each attribute; address, phone number, e-mail, orders, etc.Descriptions of where and when data are used: entered, retrieved, deleted, and updated (including frequencies) Expectations or requirements for response time and data integrity Descriptions of the technologies used for implementing the files and database sothat the range of required decisions and choices for each is known (Valacich)The design process for a database for Pizza Palace consists of the following steps: Determinethe purpose of the Pizza Palace database as this helps prepare for the remaining steps. Find and organize the information required: gather all the types of information you might want to record inthe database, such as product name and order number. Divide the information into tables: divide your information items into major entities or subjects, such as Products or Orders. Each subject then becomes a table. Within the table, columns will be filled with information pertaining to eachtable. For instance, a table for order, customer info, and dates will have columns filled with the corresponding information for the Pizza Palace database. This will allow seamless retrieval of
customer data to instantly recognize loyal customers, their orders, and their private info to expedite the process of completing an order. This will also allow the Pizza Palace to implement online ordering from any device that connects to the internet via their website/mobile app (Support).Architecture Design, Client/Server, Network, Internet ConnectivityArchitecture design in the planning phase of the SDLC includes three things: Client/server, network, and internet connectivity in the case of the Pizza Palace. The first is the
