William Ghau HIS 200: Applied History Southern New Hampshire University November 12 th , 2017 Preliminary Writing Plan Topic: The historical event that I have chosen to write on is the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The place of this incident was on the evening of April 14 th , 1865 at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. This horrific incident took place five days after Confederate General Robert E. Lee had surrendered his army at in Virginia that ended the American Civil War. Lincoln’s assassin was John Wilkes Booth, a native born actor from Maryland. Booth had gathered six associates and originally planned to kidnap Abraham Lincoln on March 20, 1865 but the attempt failed. After the original plan had failed, Booth and his conspirators regrouped and later gotten word that Lincoln was going to attend Laura Keene’s performance at Ford’s Theatre. Booth then came up with another plan that was even crueler than just kidnapping. Booth and his conspirators plotted to kill not only Abraham Lincoln but also Vice President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of State William H. Seward and his two successors at the same time. They thought this would definitely demolish the U.S government once and for all. Lincoln was the only one who died that night whilst the others survived. Lincoln was in a presidential box above
