Problem Restatement
After understanding the cause of the problem, I can use Morgan D. Jones’s problem
restatement model to find the problem I can solve best. Jones’s process helps to have a better
understanding as you are breaking down the problem in steps. To help restate a problem there are
five steps to help analyze the problem. This five-step process is meant to help one think about the
problem and restate the problem the most effective way. Jones five steps include (Jones,1998 p
65-66):
 Paraphrase : restate the problem with different verbiage without losing the initial meaning.
o Initial statement: Interviewees are waiting an excessive amount of time due to lack of
time management.
o Paraphrase: excessive wait times
 180 degrees : Turn the problem upside down.
o Initial statement: Interviewees are waiting an excessive amount of time due to lack of
time management.
